Preventing A DUI From Threatening Your Future
Driving under the influence (DUI) and driving while intoxicated (DWI) can permanently harm your career options, driving privileges and educational opportunities. The penalties range from hundreds of dollars in fines to several years in prison.
That’s why I am determined to fight these charges if you face them. My name is Matt Duggan. For 30 years, I have provided client-focused criminal defense for Washington and Idaho clients at my law firm, Matt Duggan Law. I draw from my experience as a litigator to protect your rights zealously from a drunk driving conviction.
What Should I Do If Pulled Over By A Cop?
You have certain rights if a police officer pulls you over on suspicion of DUI or DWI. This is some information to remember:
- Remain polite. Provide the information on your driver’s license such as your name, address and birth date.
- Although you have the right to refuse a breath test, the consequences of doing so is the loss of your driver’s license for up to one year.
- You do have the right to refuse field sobriety tests without suffering any penalties.
Do not provide any additional information or allow the cop to search your car. Instead, request a criminal defense lawyer.
A Former Prosecutor Who Fights Your DUI Charge
Formerly, I was a prosecutor for Spokane County. During this period, I handled hundreds of DUI and DWI charges. I know how the state approaches these types of cases, their investigative process and the evidence on which they rely. This gives me insider knowledge on how to counteract their strategies. By analyzing every detail of the case, I can often find overlooked evidence, procedures not performed correctly and other exonerating information.
